QUEEN CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) — New information from police released Wednesday revealed a sports car was going more than 130 mph before causing a chain-reaction crash that killed two people last week.

Police said 20-year-old Kyle Campbell was speeding the sports car heading east on Riggs Road when he crashed with another car at Ellsworth Road just before 11 p.m. Friday.

Because of the impact, Campbell’s car went into the westbound lanes and smashed head-on into a sedan. Campbell died at the scene.

The driver of the westbound sedan, 25-year-old Eduardo Chavez Diaz, was pulled from the wreckage but died at the scene.

A woman and two children, who were also in the sedan, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police said the children were secured in child seats.

The driver of the other car in the first crash had minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

Police expressed their condolences.

“These incidents are profoundly significant and deeply impact families, friends, and our community,” Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice said in a written statement. “Our investigators conduct comprehensive reviews of every fatal collision, carefully examining all factors, including speed, potential impairment, roadway conditions, and overall driving behavior. While the investigation remains ongoing, tragedies such as this serve as a reminder that the decisions we make behind the wheel can have life-altering and irreversible consequences.”
