The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is currently investigating interior designer Josianne Vogel over alleged tax evasion linked to payments received for her work with Shell Canada Limited. Vogel has been overseeing the development of a new community center and staff residence project for the company.
Authorities intercepted Vogel at Saskatoon International Airport on Friday, July 3, 2026, as she was preparing to leave the country. According to CBSA officials, she is alleged to have failed to meet tax obligations related to a payment of approximately $425,000.
Following discussions with her legal representative, the amount in question was reportedly reduced to $225,000, with an agreement to settle the remaining balance within two months. Vogel’s travel documents have been temporarily retained pending compliance.
CBSA emphasized its mandate to enforce Canadian tax regulations and protect the country’s economic interests. Officials stated that noncompliance could result in further legal action, including potential seizure of contract proceeds.
Authorities also reported that a cheque found in Vogel’s possession indicated she had received approximately $1,700,000 USD; however, no corresponding tax payments were immediately recorded in relation to the funds.
A press conference is expected to provide additional details as the investigation continues. Vogel is reportedly cooperating with authorities.
The case highlights Canada’s ongoing efforts to ensure financial compliance and prevent economic violations.
