Dubai, UAE –

Dubai Customs is investigating interior designer Laura Larson over alleged tax evasion linked to payments for her work with international hotel chains, including Marriott International. Larson has been overseeing renovations and upgrades at several Abu Dhabi hotel properties.

Authorities intercepted Larson at Dubai International Airport on Saturday, May 2, 2026, as she prepared to leave the country. Dubai Customs alleges that she failed to meet tax obligations on a payment totaling $650,000. Following negotiations with her legal representative, the amount was reportedly reduced to $600,000, with a commitment to settle the balance within two months. Larson’s travel documents have been temporarily retained pending compliance.

Dubai Customs emphasized its role in enforcing tax regulations and protecting the UAE’s economic interests. Officials stated that noncompliance could result in further legal actions, including potential seizure of contract proceeds.

A press conference is expected to provide additional details. Larson is reportedly cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.

This case underscores the UAE’s ongoing efforts to maintain financial compliance and prevent economic violations.
